A G Smith & Co were approached by a long-standing, family-run taxi firm that had been successfully operating with a handwritten bookkeeping system. However, changes in legislation, and rapid business growth, necessitated an upgrade to digital record-keeping.
Although parts of the business were already using Sage 50, the firm’s previous accountant had instilled a fear of abandoning their traditional methods.
Seamless software integration
Upon switching to A G Smith & Co, we conducted an on-site visit to thoroughly understand the client’s operations and needs. Recognising the importance of a smooth transition, we developed a tailored Excel solution to track driver system-rents, banking, and school contracts.
Given the size of the company, we implemented this Excel system as a bridging software to integrate seamlessly with a Sage cloud product. This approach not only enhanced the client’s digital bookkeeping capabilities but also boosted their confidence in adopting new technologies.
Over the following 12 months, we continued to enhance the finance function, transitioning it to a fully cloud-based system with live reporting capabilities. We introduced quarterly management meetings and scenario planning sessions, providing the client with real-time insights and strategic guidance.

This transformation freed up valuable time for the client, allowing them to digitise their booking system, driver tracking system, and payment processes. As a result, the business is now completely cloud-based, operating with greater efficiency and accuracy.
